In the O-Calc Master catalog, there are a variety of span types of varying sizes and specifications. However, there may be a situation in which a wire is not included in this catalog. To accurately model a cable that is not included in a catalog, it is possible to adjust a few key attributes of an existing span, to reflect specifications of the span you wish to model. These specifications must be obtained from the manufacturer.<\/p>\n

Below is an example of specifications to be modified.<\/p>\n

A table like this would show the specifications for a given type of wire. In this example, a user could start with the\u00a0ACSR 4 AWG 6\/1 SWAN<\/strong> from the master catalog by adding it to the 3D Model. The attributes of this wire from the master catalog can be viewed in the Data Entry Window.<\/p>\n

Original Attributes to be Changed<\/p><\/div>\n

This Data entry window shows the attributes of our original\u00a0ACSR 4 AWG 6\/1 SWAN\u00a0<\/strong>span. We can modify these attributes using our data table provided by the manufacturer using the following steps:<\/p>\n

  1. Change the\u00a0Rated Strength (lbs)\u00a0<\/em>from the original value to\u00a01770<\/strong>, from the table.<\/li>\n
  2. Change the\u00a0Span Diameter (in)<\/em> from the original value to the value shown for\u00a0Cable O.D. (Mils).\u00a0<\/em>A conversion must be done to the correct unit (Formula: mils = 1000d, where d is diameter in inches) = value is\u00a00.41 in<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  3. Change the\u00a0Span Weight (lbs\/ft)<\/em> from the original value to the value shown for\u00a0weight\u00a0per 1000 ft<\/em>, depending on whether or not XLP or HD Poly is being used **note: when adjusting the other two values, span weight adjusts automatically – can just verify that it is correct after converting from weight in lbs per 1000 ft to lbs\/ft. **<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
